Learning through Living - the Long Journey to the Farm

My sisters and I have had a very full life and we have learnt so much over the past few years. We have lived almost all over Southern Africa and if we haven’t lived in a certain place, we might have visited it on our travels!

We have seen beautiful countryside, long stretches of ocean, busy towns and hectic cities! We have seen so much and sometimes we forget to take moving around the country as a blessing – we have learnt things most of our friends haven’t!

I decided to take you through our travels, showing places in beautiful South Africa that you might not have visited before. I want to show you crazy things we have done but enjoyed so much! So now sit back and enjoy looking at the heap of photographs I have to show you! I know it might or might not inspire you to step out of your front door and tour the beautiful countryside that you live in! But we learnt and we are learning about life and the world around us through living!

Each week I will show you a different place we’ve lived in.

This time I will show you our journey up to Bekezela Adventure Farm. My dad bought a caravan which was our home till we got to the farm. Along the way we camped at different sites and enjoyed the beauty we had never seen before! We visited places we never dreamed existed and walked along beautiful beaches and up magnificent mountains!

Our first stop was Paarl where we stayed at The Berg River Resort

Me on my bicycle

Washing the dishes at the sinks

Another place we stayed at was Glentana Caravan Park

We visited friends who live in Wilderness near George. We stayed there for a week. They also had a dam that Nancy and I enjoyed playing on.

The view from their house – stunning isn’t it?

We stayed in Knysna for a week and visited many places, too many to put on here!  Mom and her girls aboard the Three Legs, a boat that takes you to the famous Knysna Heads!

I remember it being so cold and windy that day and we had to wrap up warmly!

The famous Knysna Heads

We went for a walk in The Garden Of Eden near Plettenberg Bay

Me standing in the hollow of a tree!

We also visited the Knysna Elephant Park

Look at the size of that elephant!

Touching the tame elephants!

We stopped at Storm’s River Mouth for a day

The swing bridge

We hiked up to the top of the mountain because someone said there were dolphins one could see from the look-out.  We walked and walked with no shoes, no water...that someone hadn’t said how far up we should go.  Nancy’s favourite animal is a dolphin, but what a disappointment when no dolphins were to be seen!

Look at the view from the top – it was so worth it!

On the beach in Port Alfred

The beautiful beach in Coffee Bay!

On and on we travelled till we came to Howick, Kwa-Zulu Natal.  We stayed at Nutmeg’s Bed & Breakfast for a night before leaving to stay with our friends in Harrismith in the Free State.

After a long journey we finally arrived at Bekezela Adventure Farm, Kwa-Zulu Natal!!!

And more about that in the next post – till then

Time for Tots - Activity #5

Hello everyone, I hope you are well? I am so sorry that I had to postpone last week’s ‘Time for Tots’. We had a terrible tummy bug in our home. Rebekah, Gabrielle and Beth had it. My dad and I showed signs of starting, but managed to get over it, which was fortunate because my mom became horribly ill. Thank you to those who prayed for our family, because we are now better and my mom is on the mend!

And here is the first person to submit their tot ideas...Thank you to Sherrin from The Drew Patch for sharing!

So now here is this week’s tot activity – I hope you like it. Nancy prepared it for Madam R and did it with her, I took the photographs!

Prepare yourself for a lovely, messy tot activity that I am sure your little ones will love!

The recipe for finger paint is really very simple: just mix one cup cake flour with 1 cup water until the right consistency and then add food colouring to make it more interesting for the little ones!

First dip your fingers in the paint...

Then start painting your beautiful picture...

...then paint some more, adding a little more detail...

...And take some more paint!

“Look at my hands!” Rebekah age 1.9months

{Remember, you can also share your tot activity ideas! Just create a post on your blog with your idea (tried and tested with photographs, please!) and give a link to THIS post here on my blog. Then come back to THIS posting and leave a comment with a link to your actual blog post. The rest of the rules are HERE. Please join in the fun! I always need new ideas for things to do with my little sisters!

Have a lovely day and have fun!

Another Birthday Card

Hello there everyone, I hope you are all well. This week I’d like to show you a card I made for a gentleman who asked me to make a card for his children to give to their mommy on her birthday. I was very honoured that he asked me and I had so much fun making it!

I used an old Friday Sketchers Challenge layout by Jorunn.

And here is my card:

I love the bright, vibrant colours of the paper!  I didn’t exactly follow the sketch – I like to leave a little room for my own creativity!

I love this stamp...I thought it would work very well on this card because the mommy is reading to her child!

The dark purple, spotty ribbon goes well with stripes and I attached a ribbon slider to it. I also put a pearl in each of the four corners.

I went to Jeffery’s Bay on Tuesday with this family and had such a lovely time. They wanted me to come with to look after their nine month old baby girl while the mommy browsed. I babysit for them in exchange for internet time on their computer – we have it all beautifully worked out! They treated me to lunch and also took me to the scrapbook shop – Bohemian Scrapsody. It is such a lovely shop and the ladies are so friendly and helpful! I bought a few co-ordinating papers to add to my collection!

So that is my card, I hope you like it!

I would also like to enter the following challenges:

Send a Smile for Kids Challenge - Birthday Girl
Bunny Zoe's Challenge - Happy Birthday with lots of Pearls
Everybody Art Challenge - Happy Birthday
Lexi's Creations - Ribbons but no bows or knots
Anyone for Anya - Birthday Card
 Have a wonderful week further

Blessings,

InFood - Jeffery's Bay

We visited Jeffery’s Bay on Friday as my dad needed to deliver a few orders along the way. One of the shop’s in Jeffery’s Bay that we supply fudge to is called In Food. It is a very smart, professional restaurant and deli owned by Jane Davies. Jane has had the privilege of working with Jamie Oliver and it was quite a feather in our caps when she complimented us on our fudge by ordering 3 different flavours!
I decided to take some photographs of InFood to show you:

InFood grow some of their own veggies in raised beds (unfortunately people were having a meeting and I dared not disturb them by doing a photo-shoot of the outside!)

This shop is bursting with delicious sweets and savoury treats

Everything is beautiful at InFood! It really is an amazing experience to walk into such a shop!

So if ever you visit Jeffery’s Bay in the Eastern Cape, be sure to stop in at InFood and take a look! You will also probably see our fudge there too, so be sure to also give it a try and let me know what you think!

Blessings,
Kelly-Anne

Fun at Jeffery's Bay

Friday morning we headed off to Jeffery’s Bay for the day.  We had fudge orders to deliver to shops and grocories to buy at the mall.  As a treat my mom and dad took us to the beach so that the girls could play in the waves and also have a picnic lunch!

Nancy and Lady Beth playing in the sea...they were a lot braver than me!

Miss Gabrielle played in the sand as she was a little scared of going into the water

Nancy decided to take Miss Gabrielle for a little swim

Nancy and I toured the rocks

Madam R found a doggy that she insisted upon loving...

The water was cold but Nancy and Lady Beth didn’t mind! I didn’t swim because I wanted to go to the scrapbook shop afterwards and I hate being sandy and sticky!

We had a lovely lunch and the girls enjoyed themselves so much. We just wished that we could have stayed longer! Gabrielle is still asking for us to please go to the beach again!

Have a lovely week further!

Blessings,

Learning through Living - Back Home in Cape Town

Back home in Cape Town...

After living in Greyton for five months, we were happy to come back to our old house in Cape Town – back to our cats, our dog and our family and friends!

I just love this picture of Nancy and I on the slide!

Look at those mountains...

Me and my most precious cat, Tiger!  I have never had a cat since like Tiger!  Let me tell you the whole story, we went shopping one morning – the whole family and Nancy and I spotted kittens and of course went to have a look, and lo and behold, each of us fell in love with one!  We already had two cats, but our family love all animals!  My mom said no, and my dad said yes – well YES it was and later that day we were seen with two new, mischievous kittens who loved to sleep on the tables and chairs and Tiger, who absolutely adored me, and slept in my bed almost every night!

Getting ready for our first train ride!
Then it so happened that my dad decided to visit a farm in Kwa-Zulu Natal. He wanted to see what it was like because it was a possibility that we could go stay there and run it. (It was an adventure farm)
My dad and I booked plane tickets and I had my fist plane flight ever – It was fun but slightly boring towards the end!

My dad and I waiting for our plane

My first aeroplane flight

We went to visit Bekezela Adventure Farm in the beautiful Karkloof valley

Here are some photos of the farm:

Then we returned home and started packing because we were going to move there!

Packing up is a chore – Beth

And so the next chapter in our lives began...more on that in my next posting!

Till next time-
