The Week That Was

I have been a little under the weather of late, thus explaining my short absence from the lovely blogging sphere...
But while I have been somewhat quiet with my writing, my hands have not been idle, for there is always something to be done, sewn or baked, and today I find myself pretty tired after quite a busy week...

Let me give a you a glimpse life lately...

Whilst watching Sense and Sensibility again in the evenings, I embroidered a few leaves onto the new patchwork cushion I am stitching...
I dearly love the story of Sense and Sensibility, but I have come to realise I prefer the 2009 BBC adaption...how about you?

We began our week with these lovely gourmet burgers!  Hmmm...how good they were!

Autumn has offically arrived, and I rejoice in the cooler weather which we should hopefully experience soon!  Look how beautifully these kale seedlings are growing!

...A busy week for stitching...
I am going away in April, and thus have to ensure I have enough stock to see me through the markets, which my sweet sister has kindly agreed to do for me during my absence...

I have sadly neglected Heartmade's blog as well lately, but I intend to share some of my new creations in the upcoming week!  Here is a new Miss Lettice I made this week...

Easter is near at hand and we have begun our Easter craftting!

Do stay tuned for a craft tutorial post coming within the next few days or so!

Then there was some lovely baking...
My mom and I had lovely Honey and Muesli muffins at a coffee shop last week, and we enjoyed them so much that we decided to try them ourselves!
Recipe coming very soon!

...With all the eggs we have been using for our crafting recently, we have been able to enjoy using them in our kitchen more regularly too!  And lots of eggs means French toast, does it not...?

~

Oh, and I have some lovely news to share...  Our two little hens, Ethel and Edith (my younger sisters named them, in case you are wondering...) have begun to lay eggs for us!
Of course their eggs are still very small, but how exciting, for these hens are the daughters of Sybil, one of our original hens who surprised with a clutch of chicks last spring.

We have had such warm weather lately...  Miss Rebekah cuddles her guinea pig, Hot Cross Bun outside...

How was your week, dear friends...?

A Beautiful Award

Quite some time ago I had the unexpected and very welcome surprise of being awarded this beautiful award by a fairly new young blogger, Khloe Grace.  Khloe blogs at ‘All Things Good’ and writes about crafty things, recipes, devotions, fashion and more.  You can visit her here

The rules for this particular award, the ‘Elegant Blogger Award’, are featured below…

When you receive the award, you must link back to ‘All Things Good’ blog and the blog that nominated you.
Display the award button in your post.
Answer all of the twelve standard questions listed by the blogger who created the award.
Nominate twelve other bloggers you think should receive the ‘Elegant Blogger Award’.
Notify them that they have been awarded.

The Questions…

What made you decide to start blogging?

In April 2009 I began blogging.  This was after my mother’s special friend started her blog, Back to Ancient Ways.
At this stage I didn’t really understand how the computer worked or how to get around the internet, so being able to write, post photographs and change the look of a background page all on the web seemed too good to be true!
After speaking to my parents about the possibility of starting my own blog, I contacted Aunty Linnie for help in how to get going.  The rest is history!

What is your fashion style?

I love being a girl and wearing feminine clothes such as dresses and peasant tops in floral prints.  Mom, Nancy and I are currently working on sewing our own clothing so we can make items to suit our own personal style.

Where is your favorite place to shop?

I don’t actually have a favourite place to shop – usually it is wherever the Lord leads…  I always ask Him for guidance and to help me find bargains and the right clothing which will be comfortable and stylish, yet modest.

What would your ideal amount of blog followers be?

When I was in my second year of blogging, I began to make friends with other bloggers around the world.  I noticed that their blogs were a lot more popular than mine, judging from the amount of followers they had on their sidebar.  But I soon realised blogging is about the journey, not about how many people decide to join.  From then on I tried to stay focused on what really mattered, and that was writing and sharing encouraging experiences.  Even if only two people read my posts, that was sufficient.  My blog has grown considerably since then and I still get excited when I get a new follower, but I am not driven by this at all.  I also don’t try to post to please anyone, but rather what the Lord puts on my heart to write and what would please Him.

What are your talents?

I believe that everyone has gifts and talents given to them by the Lord.
Everyone is different and everyone excels at different things - this is why I do not feel that I need to share any of the things I find myself ‘talented’ in – I fear this will give the impression that I am boasting.
But if you had to ask me to list a few of the many things I am passionate about, then I’m afraid you’re in for a long haul!  I have so many interests – working in the garden, cooking, preserving (making jams, chutneys and pickles), crafting, sewing, writing, music, reading, blogging…  And the list goes on:-)

Are you a leader or a follower?

I am naturally a leader – I don’t know if being the eldest of six children has anything to do with this, but each day I try to become more of a follower and submit more to the authority of my elders.

What is one of your favorite quotes?

When I was about ten and we were living in Sedgefield, I decided I would write little notes with verses and quotes on to pop into my dad’s lunchbox each day.  I still remember writing this quote for my dad one day…

It is special to me because God really has done the impossible in our lives and has answered so many of our prayers that I can’t even begin to recall…

“If you are anxious, remember that with God all things are possible!  Nothing is impossible with HIM!”

Amen!

Do you have a favorite book or book series?

I am not a great reader, although I certainly would like to become more of one.
To be very honest, though, once I start a good book, I get so engrossed that all my chores, school work and hobbies go by the wayside!  But a few of my favourite books include Christy by Catharine Marshall (the most inspiring book I’ve ever read) and A Lineage of Grace by Francine Rivers as well as the ‘Anne of Green Gables’ series by Lucy Maud Montgomery.

Out of all of the synonyms for elegant, which would you describe yourself with (smart - stylish - dressy - graceful - dainty - fine)?

I really don’t think I could answer this question 100% correctly.  Each day I pray for grace to become a woman with more of a gentle and quiet spirit (graceful).

What is your favorite flower?

I love all flowers, but I think sweet peas, pink roses, poppies and pansies the prettiest of all...

What is something none of your followers know about you?

I have no secrets as such - or any that I could share with you that would be interesting, but perhaps you didn’t know that I began to play the cello earlier this year and dream of becoming an accomplished cellist and playing with my sisters…:-)  We love music in our house!

The bloggers I have chosen to nominate for this award are listed below…

Tane from Fifth out of Ten

Nature is Beautiful:)

Yesterday afternoon our family went to dear friends of ours for an afternoon braai (barbeque).  After lunch Nancy and I went for a walk with Aunty Anne-Marie to one of the dams on their farm.  Uncle Terence and Aunty Anne-Marie live on a beautiful farm a little way outside of Sedgefield where they grow their own food, raise most of their own meat and try to live a greener lifestyle.  We really enjoyed our time – walking, taking photographs and picking fynbos to fill our vases back home.

{I love this picture so much}

Nancy loves being in nature.  We call her our ‘flower girl’ as she just thrives in the fresh air and beauty of the outdoors!

The flower girls...me...

And beautiful Nancy!

We found so many different flowers and grasses!

...And lots of bugs:)

Nancy used Aunty Anne-Marie’s camera to take photographs of a few different flowers she had found.

Buta, their big dog, came along for the walk too.  I’m not much of a dog lover, yet Buta kept coming to me and getting in my way!  He really is very sweet, though!

Nancy and I – a ‘sister’ portrait!

While we were walking, Nancy kept calling me as I was at the back of our little procession all the time.  Maybe it was because I was taking photographs of the beautiful flowers or maybe because I’m terribly unfit...could be either one or both! Ha!

When we got back, we had dessert and rested a bit!  The three younger girls and I played outside taking photographs of each other.  The deal was ‘I take a photograph of you, you take a photograph of me’.  Everyone was more or less happy with that arrangement!

Beth age 7

Gabrielle age 4

Rebekah age 2

Beth took this photograph of me with Rebekah and Gabrielle.

Gabrielle ‘took’ this one...in other words I got it ready and handed the camera to her.  All she had to do was press click!

This photograph reminds me of Maria in the 'Sound of Music' singing ‘the Hills are Alive’!  I'm entering it into Silla Jo Photography for 'Inspired by a book or movie'.

These are my two gorgeous little sisters, who played their hearts out on the hilltop!

At the end of the photo session we were a bit dizzy:)

We had a lovely day:)

I also received this really lovely award from Se7en!!

Thank you so much Se7en!

Blessings,
Kelly-Anne
