Feminine Apparel

Dear friends, I must tell you how I came to love handmade clothing so much…  Some time ago my lovely mother proposed that we ladies attempt making our own peasant tops.  I confess I wasn’t quite so keen and complained bitterly as I stumbled along and made one mistake after the next…

But God in His mercy allowed me to have another chance to succeed…

As I have grown in my sewing {and perseverance} skills, so I have wondered if sewing a peasant top now would be any easier…?

Thus, on one wet and rainy day, I purchased a lovely piece of fabric to begin again…  I even motivated myself by buying a new pair of matching earrings – nothing like a little bit of incentive, you know…:)

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the entire process from cutting out to the final fitting took me less than a day, and I was left with a very pretty peasant top with short sleeves in my very favourite colour – pink!

I was so impressed with my efforts {!} that I decided to undertake another project…  This time I chose to work with a more drapey type of fabric and make the top with loose, three quarter sleeves and a frill.

As I was a little pressed for time towards the end of the process, my Mom helped me to finish off the last few bits and pieces…

Oh, I am so delighted with this lovely top!   Of course I am very inspired to try a few more patterns, perhaps a dress or skirt at some stage…?  What do you think?

I love how I am able to dress both femininely and modestly and have the pleasure of making something to fit me…

I may not be a wonderful seamstress when it comes to making clothing, but I have great hopes of becoming one in the near future…there are so many exciting patterns to try!

Do you make any of your own clothing?  What is your favourite style?

Beautiful! You are very talented :) I have tried sewing a few articles of clothing in the past, when I was much younger and didn't have the patience needed, and did not have much success. But one of the things that I want to work on this year is my sewing skills, so I'm hoping to possible start with a simple skirt. You did a wonderful job on your top and the colors are lovely!

Love and blessings!

Gorgeous colors! You did a beautiful job, Kelly-Anne, and it looks great on you!
I do not enjoy sewing, but I do sew my own skirts because that seems to be the only way I can get skirts that are just how I like!

Why thank you Bethany dear! Oh! Yes, that is precisely why I began making my own tops...I can make them exactly how I like them! Much love, Kelly

I love the fabric you chose Kelly-Anne! I was never brought up with sewing but I am trying to encourage it with my daughter and she has made some lovely skirts. This peasant top looks like another nice project to tackle!

I also wanted to mention that for some reason, your links are taking us to some HTML page. If you go onto the Art of Home-making Mondays, visit your link to see what I am saying. I hate for people not to see your beautiful blog properly :) and I have noticed this problem the last couple of weeks so it isn't a one-time thing... Or, perhaps it is just my end that is the problem... Take care, JES :)

Your top is just beautiful....perfect for such a beautiful young lady! I love the fabric you chose, the neckline is very flattering, and I LOVE the sleeves! Did you use a pattern for this style? I would love to know the name and number of the pattern as I would like to make some of this style for myself. It has been years since I sewed clothing, but I have been considering it recently as there are so many lovley fabrics to choose from and I can make styles that I love. Thanks for the recent comments on my blog as well. You come up as a ne reply commenter so I cannot repsond by e-mail. Have a lovely day!

Blessings, Vicky

Hello dear Vicky! Oh, thank you so much for your very sweet comment - I am so touched:)
I am glad you like this shirt pattern...I love how feminine and practical it is and you can make it with shiorter or longer sleeves too!
I used a 'New Look' pattern and the number for it is: 6892.
Hope you can find it - sewing ones own clothes is very enjoyable and rewarding! I actually just purchased a beautiful piece of fabric for a knee-length wrap skirt and I am so excited to get creating!
I would love to know how to not be a 'no reply' blogger - would you perhaps tell me how...?
And thank you again for your kind visit - I love stopping by your blog:)
Blessings to you and much love!

Hello Kelly-Anne! Thank you so much for the pattern information! I found it on Amazon and am going to order it. I hope to find some time to make one soon! As for the no-reply blogger issue, you can visit my sweet blog friend Chel at the following address and scroll down to the part where she explains it. It is a handy tutorial. I was having the same issue and this was the only way it completely resolved it. Beofre I would go in and make changes, but it would revert back to no reply every few months. I took Chel's advice and haven't had the issue since. While you're there, look around. She has a beautiful blog and takes amazing photos. She lives in Englad and is from London. She visits there often and shares her adventures. Stephanie from Enchanted Rose is a friend of hers as well. Best of luck! Have a lovely weekend...:)

Hugs, Vicky

Hi Kelly-Anne, just wondering if you found this pattern online or did you purchase in store? My daughter is interested in making up some peasant style tops. Thank you in advance for your help!
