What I Learnt Today...

I learnt a lot today – I learnt how to handle real life situations and how to stomach watching Rebekah's toddler singing DVD again!

I learnt fascinating things school-wise as well.  As Nancy and I are working our way through ‘Exploring Creation with Botany’, we dissected a flower.  We learnt all the interesting names for the male and female parts...the stigma, the anther, the filament, etc and their purposes.

I learnt that school work can get done in the midst of chaos and the constant ‘spelling out’ of seven year old Beth who is mastering reading.  I learnt that Rebekah can be kept quiet – all she really wants to do is do what we are doing – she cut up a flower and made a mess – lol:)

I learnt that many hands make light work in the epic clean-up before lunch and the even bigger clean-up afterwards. We work pretty well as a team. I found out that there is a real satisfaction in washing zillions of dishes:-)

I learnt that Zac, Beth’s puppy can in fact ‘fetch’ and bring back a stick. I also learnt that it is a good thing to use up all your energy outside, playing with your sisters - even if you are dropped more than once when in the pretend wagon that the seven year old is pulling. It’s okay if you are laughed at ‘cus you look funny' – really!

I learnt that we can get ready for a beach trip in more or less 15 minutes and make it up to the gate before our friends arrive to pick us up.  I also learnt that Mom needs a rest every now and then and that God looks after the weary...we had a beautiful time at the beach and Mom had a wonderful rest!  I learnt, too that my best friend is my camera:D

I learnt that I love my family more than ever!  I learnt that I do love my sister even when she cries because she wants the ‘pindt’ (pink) ice cream cone!  I learnt that I am blessed beyond measure...

I learnt again that Mom’s cooking is the best and that I love mealtimes at our house, full of fun and laughter!

I learnt that at the end of the day it is wonderful to be peaceful, finish a few projects – and go to bed. After a busy day, we all need our rest to prepare for the next day in our crazy, but yet wonderful lives.

I learnt again that Jesus loves me even when I sin, fail and make mistakes.

P.S. I wrote this for the fun of it and for the love of my family, my life and my Jesus. Yes, things go wrong, funny things happen and so do the good things. The aim of this post is to laugh over the silly moments of our lives – we need to learn to see the glass half full and to ‘laugh it off’ at the end of a particularly splendid and disastrous day:) Kelly-Anne

Wordless Wednesday

Hello Again!

Hello again!! It feels so good to be on my blog again! We haven't yet got Internet on the farm as we are too far out!! I tried going to the library, but each time I went, they were offline! Fortunately my dad has been working in Cape Town so I came down with him to stay at my best friend, Heidi-Mari. I am staying for five nights - but I am really going to miss the farm!


Now I want to tell you a bit about the farm!

...It is BEAUTIFUL!! Never in our lives have we felt so happy! There is so much freedom and we are NEVER inside (except of course when we are sleeping) We beg to be allowed out, but not until our chores are done!!

There are also many down sides but we are choosing to focus only on the good!

There are two horses: Gaylord and Snowflake. Snow is pregnant!! Very exciting! I ride our neighbour's horse called Hazelnut. She is three and has only just been broken in but she is so gentle and sweet and
thinks she is a human. She comes to you for cuddles and hugs and is so good with the little ones even though she is still so young! I am teaching her to trot properly and to stop (she doesn't like to stop) and we are starting to canter! I ride bareback all the time because she is not trained to have a saddle! We ride up and down the road! Snow and Gaylord are very nosey. Snow loves my mom and she comes onto the porch! Gaylord we call 'Dopey' from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - he always looks sleepy!

Trying to eat my breakfast of maize meal...as you can see I was having a bit of trouble....!  I actually got a bit of horsey slobber on my bowl...yuck!

The guinea pigs are doing so well! Cocoa gave birth to Tammy, Peanut and Butter a week or two ago, and Candy, my guinea pig, had her babies just before I left - four, the most she has ever had, or so we thought! This morning my mom sms'd to say that she had two more during the night!! She now has six!! Now there are 13 to look after till it is time to sell them! (Nancy didn't keep Honey.)

There is a forest at the bottom of the farm where we have picnics and collect small pieces of wood for the little coal stove in our living area.

The little ones play all day on their bicycles riding up and down the drive! They play with mud, tadpoles and sand toys!!

Nancy and I are enjoying living on a farm! I planted lettuce, radish, onion and Swiss Chard seed the other day. The Swiss Chard is for my guinea pigs!

The sunrises and sunsets are ten times better than in the city. The frogs croak all night, sending us to sleep, crickets chirp and a little bird hops about, tame as ever on our porch! Life is harder and tougher than in the city but there is a purpose to living - there is freedom and beauty all around us and we are wonderfully happy!





















This move was good - we are where we are meant to be - praise be to God for opening this door!!!

Let Sleeping Babies Lie!

The other day my Mom was sick in bed, so Rebekah was all ours.  We had to look after her and care for her, as poor Mom was too sick to do anything!

Rebekah was very tired, and was crying and crying, so Nancy took her outside.  A little while later, Nancy came inside to call me, and said that I must be very quiet.

I was very suspicious....what had she done with my sister?  So I went outside and had a peek.....

This is what I found:

 Rebekah fast asleep in the wheelbarrow!!

She had fallen asleep, but not in the ideal bed!  Nancy had only put plastic down to make it a little softer, but she was sleeping like...like a baby!!!

I just had to grab my camera and take a picture!
























Nancy had wheeled Rebekah around until she fell asleep!

Every time Rebekah stirred, Nancy would wheel her around some more until she settled down again!!


Nancy was very happy, because she could read for an hour, while Rebekah slept!  Nancy is working her way through The Hardy Boy series by Franklin W. Dixon.  My dad read them as a  little boy, and he kept them in a box for us.  I tried them, but I found them too scary!  Nancy LOVES mystery stories, so she doesn't mind!

Now when we are having trouble with Rebekah, we pop her in the wheelbarrow and wheel her around till she falls asleep!  It is a win-win:  Mom gets free time and we get to read!  And of course Rebekah is well rested!   We now lay blankets down and pillows, as it is a lot more comfortable!


My mom said that we should paint the wheelbarrow pink and make some blankets and cushions for bedding, and put it in Rebekah's bedroom, because she sleeps better in the wheelbarrow than in her own cot!


What some sisters don't do to get their baby sisters to sleep!

Gabrielle - Funny Girl!

This little girl does so many funny things to make us laugh!
Here is a photo of her with a beanie on - isn't she adorable?

One morning, we all were lying on Mom and Dad's bed - just talking and laughing over funny things, when we saw Gabrielle talking to Rebekah and then look at her with a puzzled expression. Then she looked at us and said: "Rebekah tan't peak" (can't speak)? We all thought this was very funny and burst out laughing! Little ones are so funny!
















Another day, my mom found her with her doll. She had taken koki and had scribbled on her and her doll - they looked the same!

No wonder she had been quiet for such a long time!

She is such a clown and life would not be the same without her!
