With Easter mere weeks
away, I thought I would share this delightful craft tutorial with you, just in
case you felt inclined to decorate your home for this lovely occasion and have
some fun crafting while you’re about it!
While I do not embrace the
world’s view of Easter, choosing rather to dwell on the real reason for celebrating, I
do however, enjoy doing a few Easter inspired crafts, baking some yummy treats
and the great excitement of an Easter egg hunt which has been a tradition in
our home for as long as I can remember…

This lovely craft is perfect
for that evening when you‘re feeling somewhat creative, and a wonderful bonus
is that you will have plenty of eggs for the next morning’s breakfast…what
could be more delightful…?
How about some delicious
French toast, my friends…?
On searching the web, I was
greeted by such mouth-watering recipes that I was quite spoilt for choice!
After some consideration, I
decided that a simpler one would be just right, for when one is cooking for a
family such as ours, a fancy breakfast of gourmet French toast takes quite some
time to prepare!
I settled on this one – it
was not too exotic, yet different from our usual recipe and both enjoyable to
make and eat!
Delicious buttermilk French toast…
Now, shall we begin our
crafting session…?

To make decoupage eggs you will need…
Fresh
eggs…
Pretty paper napkins…
You will also need some Modge
Podge, Decoupage varnish and a sharp tool to make a hole in each egg…
Using
a sharp tool such a corkscrew, start by making a little hole in the bottom of
each egg…
It is really not as difficult
as it may sound, simply make a hole and use the tips of your finger to peel
away a little of the shell to form a 1cm hole…
Use a skewer to pierce the
yolk, then turn the egg upside down and remove all the contents by shaking –
this is rather enjoyable!
Rinse
the egg out thoroughly with clean water.
Immerse the eggs in a
solution of 100g salt to 1 litre water for 30 minutes, filling them up so that
they sink.
Shake the water out and
rinse the shells in clean water.
Leave to dry completely.
Now cut or tear small pieces
from a paper napkin...
What we found, was that it was
better to tear or cut out an individual design such as a flower or a butterfly
than to just use random pieces, as the result is much more effective and pleasing
to the eye…
Coat the top half of the egg
in Modge Podge and apply a small piece of paper napkin, coating it in another
layer of Modge Podge to ensure it adheres smoothly onto the egg. Work in small stages…
Note: It is a good idea to first
cover the egg in the white paper part of the napkin before doing a second layer
of the actual design so that the colour of the shell doesn’t shine through the
thin paper…
It is best to leave the
first half of the egg to dry completely before attempting to decoupage the
other half…
The wet paper napkin also sticks
to fingers very easily and will make the egg look tacky if touched.
Once dry, repeat the process
on the bottom half of the egg and again allow to dry completely.
Coat the egg in a decoupage
varnish or another layer of Modge Podge and leave to dry overnight.
…And there you are! Just look at your beautiful creations!
Now you can use your pretty
eggs to decorate your home!
