Sewing Pleasures...

As many of you know, I have been sewing my own peasant tops for about a year now...
This was after I couldn’t find beautiful shirts that were both modest and comfortable…and not to mention fitted me nicely…{{smiles}}

I then began sewing these wonderfully easy and pretty peasant tops, and can now whip one up within an hour or two…all I need is some lovely fabric such as viscose or challis, the latter being my favourite as it is not too thin but still light and airy, and time…

This is one of my more recent peasant tops, but I have another pretty pattern for a similar top which is just a little bit more challenging…I think it will be fun to progress onto something more exciting and different, don't you think...?

Should my next shirt turn out alright, I shall try to share a picture of the finished product with you!  For now, my sister has requested a blouse, so that is to be my next weekend project…{{smiles}}

*When wearing a peasant blouse such as the one I have on in these pictures, I read that one would generally wear it with a pencil skirt or something that is a bit more fitted.

What have you been sewing lately?

Do you enjoy making your own clothing?

~

With thanks to my sister, Nancy, who played photographer for me today…

~
Blessings and love,

  1. Kelly-Anne, this is lovely! I wish I could sew, but I have never really taken (or had) the time to learn. It is definitely on my bucket list though!

  2. Lovely peasant top!
I generally sew crafty type things -- but lately I've been sewing some dresses for my mom who fell last year and is finding it difficult to wear some of her clothes under her back brace. Challenging - and rewarding (smile)

  3. Oh my...Kelly-Anne! That is a beautiful top! I love how it fits and that pattern is perfect! ☺ No sewing for me, but I have been crafting a bit.

I hope your mama had a lovely Birthday! And you all had a sweet Valentine's Day!

I hope you have a delightful week!
    Hugs my friend!

  4. This is truly wonderful, my sweetest Kelly Anne !!
I love sewing so much and I sewed such lots of dresses of mine, but when I didn't teach yet, ... having much more time it was easier to me !
Now I cannot find the time for this too, and I'm so sad for this, sewing and embroidering gave me such a joy !

Hoping your week is off to a great start,
I wish you all my best for the days to come,
thinking of you with so much love

  5. Very nice Kelly-Anne! You did a wonderful job and made me think that maybe I should start sewing a little more of my own clothing.

  8. Kelly-Anne:
What a beautiful peasant top! Did you create the pattern yourself or not? If you used a pattern, would you mind sharing the name of it?

  9. Oh, precious Kelly-Anne, what a beautiful peasant top! I remember wearing these and sewing them back in the 1960's during what was then called the "hippy" days. Yes, remember, I'm old enough to be your grandma! Hehe! And, yes, I used to make all my clothes in high school and even made clothing items for my mother and my grandmother. Living up north in New Jersey (America) where we experienced cold and snow, I would make clothing items out of wool and line them, so it took a lot more sewing skill. And I was even in a fashion show in high school when I took sewing classes (back when they offered courses like that). It was great fun, and I had a best friend from church with whom I would sew, and her mother was an expert seamstress and taught me many finishing techniques that helped my work look much more professional. I praise God for the godly woman she was and for the time I had to spend with her and my best friend at the time. I praise God that He has given you the gift of sewing and making your own clothing and know that it will continue to bless you and others (and hopefully your own family). Hugs, sweet friend!

  10. Looking good, Kelly-Anne! I admire your ability to sew your own clothes. I've always loved the bohemian fashion style and have few (store-bought) peasant tops in my wardrobe.

  12. Oh Kelly-Anne...your blouse is just beautiful! I also love that style...it seems it is always in style too...a real classic look. But mostly, I would like to say how utterly gorgeous YOU are...my goodness, you just keep getting more beautiful! I love these sweet photos of you! Hugs!

  13. What a lovely blouse, Kelly-Anne! Sewing clothes just shows how much talent you have when it comes to sewing :) I have tried to sew a few simple clothing articles before, but was so not successful {{winks}} I prefer to stick with pillows and simple things like that.

You did a fabulous job on this blouse, though! And I do hope you share pictures of others you make in the future...

Hope you have a wonderful upcoming week! Sending much love!

  14. That style suits you to perfection, Kelly-Anne!

I do enjoy sewing my own clothes. :) My current project is an a-line tunic/dress with patch pockets and three-quarter length sleeves which I hope to finish very soon.

  15. The blouse is so pretty. I love to sew, but I don't sew for myself. When the kids were little I sewed a lot for them. Now I love to sew crafty things! My mother made almost all my clothes when I was a little girl.

  16. That is really lovely, and very clever of you, my multi- talented friend!
As many have said, the fit is astonishingly good as it just strikes a balance between loose and fitted..I also remember the peasant tops of the 'seventies' but I am sure they were much less attractive than your design! Your gorgeous fabric drapes beautifully.
I haven't ever sewn for myself...it is one of those things I have always wanted to try! Craft-type sewing is passable but I'm no expert!
Hugs to you! Hope your Mum is keeping okay.

  18. Your peasant top is just sooo pretty and you are even prettier! I look forward to seeing your next project, sweet friend. I have been sewing, and making things from my late beloved clothes. It's taken me two and a half years to be able to do this. I hope I can share my projects soon.
Also, happy birthday to your dear mom! I know you both are blessings in each other's lives. xo

  19. I love your blouse!!! And the fact that is homemade makes it even more lovely ;0). Did you use your own pattern or a purchased pattern? I love the flounce sleeves....darling!

  20. That's a cute top, Kelly-Anne! Would you share the pattern (maker, number) info? It is very flattering. I'm in the process of sewing a dress, not sure how it's going to turn out (fingers crossed!). Just finished up a seat cover for the truck to help keep it clean from the dogs. :-)
Oh, I have a oh so cute tunic top pattern I want to make...just might put the dress aside for that one. Have a blessed week!

  22. My goodness Kelly-Anne, such a beautiful post in so many ways. Your peasant blouse is just darling, so perfect for you, I agree, and the pictures your sister took of you are amazing! You are so beautiful both inside and out!

You asked about sewing - well, I have recently caught the "sewing" bug, and have made my niece a dress, and just sewed some little pillow hangers. I haven't made clothes for myself in years. Maybe it is time for me to try. May I ask what pattern you use that is so easy? Perhaps I need to try to make a blouse or two, that would be a challenge for me :) I just love seeing what you are doing dear Kelly-Anne, such talent and sweetness you have. Such a blessing to us all! Have a wonderful day :)

  24. Adorable top! Love the fabric. I just love peasant tops but don't think I look good in them. This one looks great on you. I used to sew all my kids clothes and my own curtains. These days I don't sew much at all but still have my sewing machine nearby.

  25. very cute top, it looks great on you.... I haven't sewn any clothes since high school, unless you count ones I've made for dolls I have made and altering my clothes. I found the love of quilting and that is the kind of sewing I do now,

  26. What a gorgeous shirt! I really should expand into trying to make shirts for myself. I enjoy making my own layered peasant-style skirts for me, and I just made a couple for my daughters from some Frozen fabric. I've made jumpers and pajamas and Halloween costumes for my kids, and lots of aprons, but beyond that, I have yet to venture. I admire your skills!

  27. Kelly-Anne, your peasant top is gorgeous. I love the pretty fabric. It's fun sewing your own clothes, isn't it. When you design and sew for yourself, one can always have an original. Such gorgeous photos of you!

  28. Kelly-Anne you look absolutely darling in this Peasant top. Which by the way "Paisley" is a favorite of mine. I love the look of that top and wouldn't mind having one of my own to wear. You are so lucky to be able to sew (I stink at it).

  29. Simply lovely, sweet friend! I do so love your peasant tops and you look beautiful in them. When it comes to clothing I enjoy sewing skirts, but that is about it {{smiles}} I have made several dresses, but it's been a while.

Thank you so much for sharing your talent and creativity with Roses of Inspiration. Hugs to you!

  34. It's stunning, love the fabric and the way it flows. Years ago when I was expecting my daughter I made some of my own maternity clothes. I made clothes for her as well and matching outfits for her cabbage patch doll. I don't make clothes anymore, but enjoy sewing baby items such as bibs, small blankets, burp cloths, and have made dozens of tote bags I've given away to friends. Thanks for the inspiration. ~ Abby
